Online
date results in carjacking
PINELAND, S.C. (AP) - A man looking for love
online found himself the victim of a carjacking apparently set
up by his Internet date, police said.
The 17-year-old girl and another man, Tyrone Taylor, 22, of
Pineland, were arrested last week on charges of armed robbery
and conspiracy.
The victim, a 22-year-old Charleston man, also has not been
identified. Police said he had arranged a date May 26.
The girl drove his car to a remote Pineland field where
they began kissing, Jasper County Sheriff's Det. Ted Morris
said. Soon thereafter, an attacker held a gun to the girl's
head, ordered the two out of the car, then sped away in the
vehicle.
"At that time, I was convinced she'd set the whole thing
up," the victim said in a telephone interview with the
Carolina Morning News. "It was just too perfect."
The girl originally claimed to be a victim but because of
the remote location deputies thought she was involved, Morris
said.
The car, valued at $5,000, was found May 27 in a nearby
county. It had been burned and stripped of its $4,000 stereo
system.
