Excel Assignment #1 

 

1) Create a new workbook

    Choose File:New or click the New button

   a blank workbook opens up.

    Type your name in cell A1

    Type in the rest of the worksheet like this example:

2) Type the numbers into Column D without commas or dollar signs

       Select the salary cells

       Right-click and choose Format cells

       Click number tab choose currency set decimal places at 0 and click OK

 

3)Resize your columns by selecting their column headers with the WHITE plus pointer, then double click

 

4) Formatting Cells

Practice selecting the cell with your in it and changing the font, color, size, etc.

 

5) We can change the way our data looks

   font, color, alignment, size, attributes

a) First we need to select the cells we want to change

    Select A2 through D7

b) Choose FormatàCells, Click the Alignment tab

c)    Click the horizontal down arrow

d)    Choose Center

e)    Click OK

   Click outside your selected cells

 

6) Adding Borders

     Select cells A1 through D7

     Right-click the selected cells

     Choose Format cells

     Click the border tab

    click outline

    choose a color

    click OK and deselect

 

 

7) Background Fills and colors

     Select cells A3 through A7

     Right-click the selected cells

     Choose Format cells

     Click the patterns tab

    choose a color

    click OK and deselect

 

8) Copy and Paste

•Select A1:D7

•Click the Copy button

–a running marquee goes around the cells

•Click into cell A9

–you only need to select the upper left cell

•Choose Paste

–Deselect and press ESC to turn off the marquee

 

9) Copy to another worksheet

a)    Select the cells A1:D7 again.

b)    Click copy and click on Sheet 2’s tab

c)    Click paste

d) Add “Worksheet #2” in cell A9 of Sheet 2

 

10) Preview a worksheet

a)    Choose the Print Preview button
or choose File:Print Preview

b)    You’ll see a preview of Sheet 2

 

11) Print your entire workbook

a)    Preview all worksheets

b)    Print àUnder “Print What” select  Entire Workbook

 

12) Save your Spreadsheet as Excel1.xls
