During the spring semster of the Digital Media program at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center, students have the opportunity to enroll in advanced credit courses in the Digital Media department at Niagara County Community College. In order to participate in the College Acceleration Program, the student must maintain an overall average of 80% during the first semster of the Digital Media program at NCTEC, and be recommend by the instructor. If these criteria are met, students may register for up to two college courses each year at NCCC, totalling up to 12 credits for students who complete both years of the program. This is an excellent opportunity for students to earn college credits early and gain insight into the college experience. This option is highly recommended for those who will continue their education in this field.
Possible NCCC course offerings* include:
COM 101 Intro to Media Communications
DIG 102 Interactive Multimedia: Flash
DIG 103 Interactive Multimedia: Actionscript
DIG 104 Digital Video and Audio
DIG 106 Video Production
DIG 110 Intro to Web Technology
*depending on availability
These courses may be offered either at the NCCC campus during the normal BOCES time slot, or as online courses which can be taken at the NCTEC
Sanborn site during normal class time. Please note that NCTEC does not provide transportation to NCCC. Students taking the courses at the NCCC campus will be responsible for their own transportation, or special arrangements may be made with the home school district to drop off and pick up students at the NCCC campus via the regular NCTEC bus. These arrangements will be made on a case-by case basis, depending on student enrollment. However, please note that students must follow the NCCC schedule and may need to attend classes during scheduled NCTEC breaks, during which time students will be responsible for their own transportation.
Other partners include Hilbert College, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and local cable stations. Hilbert and the Art Institute offer college credit for the course and scholarship opportunities for graduates of the program. Cable stations are available as possible intern sites for student enrolled in the video production course.
