Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, the Digital Media program will be comprised of two separate 1-year courses: Animation and Video Production. This structure will allow students more flexibility, as they may take one or both years, depending on their schedule and areas of interest. The web design portion of the curriculum will be shifted to the Graphic Communications program, which will also offer two year-long courses: Web Design and Graphic Design.
Field Trip to NCCC and LCTV - November 17, 2009The Digital Media students took a field trip to Niagara County Community College to explore the college credit opportunities available through NCCC's College Acceleration Program, and then on to the Lockport Community Television station to learn about public access television. Several students appeared as guests on the show, "Your Public Schools", while others worked behind the scenes to help produce the show.
Digital Media Senior Wins 2009 Statewide "Keeping Smiles Brighter" contest - May 22, 2009Digital Media senior Raechelle Ripley from Wilson was named as a winner in the 2009 statewide "Keeping Smiles Brighter" contest, sponsored by the New York State Dental Association. Raechelle created a placemat promoting dental heath that will be distributed across the state. She also received a cash award of $100.00. Digital Media Student Wins Second Place in Video Category at the WNY Media Arts Show at UB - February 27, 2009The Digital Media class traveled to the University at Buffalo on February 27, 2009 to attend the Western New York Media Art Teachers' Association (MATA) Media Arts Festival. Over 200 media arts students from all over Western New York were in attendance. Students had the opportunity to exhibit their work, participate in mini-workshops, tour the Visual Studies and Media Studies departments, and apply to the New York State Summer School for the Arts. NCTEC Digital Media student Zach Pape, a junior from North Tonawanda, won second place in the Video and Animation category with his documentary video about the creation of the TCP skate park in North Tonawanda.
Two Digital Media Seniors Inducted into the National Technical Honor Society - October 10, 2008Megan Cavanaugh, from Niagara Wheatfield, and Raechelle Ripley, from Wilson, were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society this year. In order to qualify, students must be members of SkillsUSA, have excellent or perfect attendance, and maintain an average of 90 or better in their Career and Technical program, as well as an overall average of 85 or better at their disctrict. The Digital Media classroom expansion project has been completed. The program now has a larger classroom area, a dedicated studio space and green screen wall, as well as new HD cameras and lighting equipment for student use.
Digital Media Student Wins 2008 statewide "Save Your Friend’s Life Over the Air Waves Contest" - June 1, 2008Digital Media senior Waylon Wison from Niagara Wheatfield was named as a winner in the 2008 statewide "Save Your Friend’s Life Over the Air Waves Contest", sponsored by the New York State Association of Traffic Safety Boards. Waylon created a 30 second radio spot about the topic of safety belts, which was one of seven entires chosen to be played on radio stations statewide, as well as featured on the website: http://www.nysatsb.com/. He also received a cash award of $200.00. Digital Media Student Wins Web Design Contest - April 7, 2008Digital Media senior Steve Garbus from North Tonawanda won a web design contest for the RibbedTee clothing company held by the site 99designs. Steve's design was chosen to be used for RibbedTee's new web site, and he also received a cash prize of $450. His winning design can be seen here.
Digital Media senior Jason Estepan of Niagara Wheatfield and his team were named as finalists in the national Five Freedoms Public Service Announcement Contest, sponsored by RTNDF, the Student Television Network and SchoolTube. Jason, along with NCTEC students Andy Gullo and Nick Magyar, created a 30 second video PSA, called "The Freedom to Be Me". The objective of the contest was to show how using the First Amendment’s Five Freedoms enriches our lives – or how not using them can stifle our Constitutional rights.
Digital Media Students Win Third Place in Video Category at the Western New York Media Arts Show - February 29, 2008Digital Media students Raechelle Ripley and Andrew Zellner from Wilson, won third place in the Video and Animation category at the Western New York Media Arts Show at UB with their documentary video about the sport of bowling.

Digital Media Student Wins Logo Contest- February 21, 2008Digital Media senior Waylon Wilson's logo design was chosen from over 100 entries in the Orleans/Niagara Teacher Center logo redesign contest. He won a $200 gift card from Best Buy to purchase digital media equipment/software to further his learning.
The Digital Media program will be gaining an expanded classroom area and studio space, effective September 2008.

In the premiere episode of NCTEC News, our hosts, Johnny Pod and Jamie Cast, interview teachers and students at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center. This ongoing video show highlights events and programs at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center located in Sanborn, NY. The show is produced by 12th grade students enrolled in the Digital Media program.
The Digital Media program began its first full-time year, with both junior and senior class sections. The program has been very successful in recruiting new students, and was filled to capacity at the start of the school year.
