Overview

The Digital Media program is comprised of two one-year courses designed to prepare students for further education and careers in digital video production and animation. Possible job opportunities after completion of further education in this field include video technician, editor, camera operator, screenwriter, storyboard artist, animator, motion graphics artist, or multimedia developer, among others.

Emphasizing hands-on production experience, the Video Production course teaches the fundamentals of video production, including the techniques and the aesthetics of shooting, lighting, and editing. Students study video technologies, basic equipment operation, video composition, basic lighting and audio, motion graphics, production planning, and non-linear editing. Students work both individually and in teams to learn pre-production, production, and post production stages of video creation, distribution, and evaluation.

The Animation course introduces the basic terminology, concepts, and techniques of animation. Students learn historical perspective, current technologies, applications of animation, and basic principles of 2D and 3D animation. Students work hands-on, using a variety of animation techniques to create a portfolio of work designed to assist them in their pursuit of further education in the field.

Through our partnership with Niagara County Community College, students enrolled in the program also have the opportunity to take college classes in the Digital Media department at the NCCC campus, or online from our facility.

Students enrolling in the Digital Media program should possess a solid English and math background (art or media classes are also beneficial), an overall average of 80 or above, and be on track for a Regents Diploma. This is a college prep program intended for students who wish to pursue a career in the Digital Media field and who are planning to continue their education in this area.
