Lead Contamination Testing Results
On September of 2016, Governor Cuomo signed a law that required all public schools to test water for lead contamination. In light of this law, Orleans/Niagara BOCES has been working with Stohl Environmental Consultants and the Niagara Falls Water Authority to test water quality in fixtures around our sites. All together there were over 400 samples taken. Out of those samples, 51 were found to be above a 15ppm action level, with many of those being interior/exterior hose bibs or hair washing sinks.
All of the lab data has been reported to the Department of Health and we have replaced faucets, pipes and drinking fountains and placed signs that read “Nonpotable Water – Do Not Drink” until repairs or replacements could be made.
The health and safety of Orleans/Niagara BOCES’ students, faculty and staff continues to be our BOCES’ top priority. We are following all protocols and recommendations from Stohl and will continue to vigilant with testing the water quality at our sites.
