Autism Spectrum Disorder/CLaSS Program

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder - The CLaSS Program:

    Orleans/Niagara BOCES has developed the CLaSS program for children who are experiencing delays in Communication, Learning and Social Skills.  This program is designed to meet the needs of children who have been diagnosed with or demonstrate characteristics of:

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder
    • Delays in social skills
    • Language disabilities
    • Learning delays
    • Neurological impairments

    Staff meets regularly to provide the most effective and cohesive education plan for each student.

    Multidisciplinary teams include:

    • Special Education Teacher
    • Occupational Therapist
    • Physical Therapist
    • Speech/Language Therapist
    • Teacher of the Visually Impaired
    • Teacher of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired
    • Counselor
    • Instructional/1:1 Aides
    • Nurse
    • Ancillary services of: art, music, physical education, and adaptive physical education

    Aspects of the program meeting the instructional needs of our students are:

    • Small, structured classrooms
    • 6:1:1 and 12:1(3:1) (usually capped at 6) options
    • Sensory based activities
    • Physical activity throughout the day
    • Individual and/or class behavior management plans
    • Individually paced education  programs aligned with New York State standards
    • Family nights
    • Social skills/language skills development
    • Mainstreaming opportunities
