Transition Services
The Orleans Niagara BOCES Transition Department, under the supervision of Coordinator Krista Macomber, assists students, families, districts and agencies with various aspects of transition.
One of the things our specialist assists students and their families with is the linkage to services and job coaching support for a smooth transition into adult life. The Transition Specialist works with students and their families to provide assistance with OPWDD eligibility, ACCES-VR referrals, and linkage and support to services for students after high school.
Another important component of transition is Work-Based Learning. Our Program provides high school students with job coaching support with participating employers within our community. Through this program, students are able to gain work skills, learn how to maneuver within a worksite, and build self-confidence. Work-based learning can help students build a connection with their internship supervisors and within their communities.
Debbie Branch, Transition Specialist is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). Mrs. Branch has worked many years within the field of developmental disabilities and special needs, including supported employment/job coaching services and Medicaid Service Coordination. Mrs. Branch also coordinates the RCASA group (Regional, Community, Agency, and School Alliance) for Niagara and Orleans Counties. These groups are an alliance between school districts and agencies throughout this region. They meet throughout the school year to share important information. These meetings include various topics and speakers related to transition services.
