Extended School Year-Summer School

  • The Orleans/Niagara BOCES holds a six-week full day special education summer program for students with a wide range of disabilities and needs; this program is known as the Extended School Year (ESY) program.  The goal of the Extended School Year program is to help students maintain the skills that they learned during the school year.  Engaging theme-based lessons, field trips, and special programs keep the 332 students that register from regressing during the summer months.  Along with the classroom instruction that is focused on literacy, the program also includes:

    • Speech/Language Therapy
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Physical Therapy
    • Vision Services
    • Hearing Services
    • Orientation and Mobility
    • Counseling

    The 2023 Extended School Year program will begin with a mandatory staff orientation on July 6, 2023.  Students will report on July 10, 2023.  The last day of the program will be August 18, 2023, for both students and staff. 

     Our theme for the 2023 ESY Program is:

    "Summer Learning is Fun"

     

    Let your creativity shine as bright as the sun! Learn through hands on experiences about gardening, transportation, travel, sports, and more. Enjoy making summer treats, staying cool outside, and creating “summer fun” crafts and projects. Put on your sunglasses and sunscreen and enjoy a great summer of learning with endless possibilities and fun for everyone!

    There are two separate applications.  It is very important to read the information below before downloading the application so you know which application you will need, to apply for a position.

    The reappointment application is for 10-month O/N BOCES staff only who worked for the 2022 ESY program.

    The more detailed Extended School Year application should be used by the following individuals:

    • Current O/N BOCES substitutes who are seeking full-time employment in the 2023 ESY program.
    • Current 10-month O/N BOCES full- and/or part-time employees who did not work the 2022 ESY program.
    • All non-O/N BOCES employees, no matter if they worked the 2022 ESY program or not.

    There will be five sites this year.  They are:

    • Orleans Learning Center, Medina NY
    • Roy-Hart Learning Center, Gasport NY
    • BOCES NT Learning Center, North Tonawanda NY
    • Niagara Academy, Sanborn NY
    • Godfrey Learning Center, Burt NY
