  • Attendance

Posted by Susan Soos on 8/7/2019 8:00:00 AM

Your substitute assignments will reflect the need of the instructional employee.  It is recommended that you report before the official start of the school day.  You are to report to the administrative office of the school to which you have been assigned according to the time recorded by the Absence Management System.  Substitutes are expected to know the reporting time for assignments and to report promptly.

Schools and Employees have different starting times.  Therefore, substitutes must pay close attention to the time the assignment is to begin. The beginning and ending times for substitutes will vary from school to school.

If you accept an assignment in advance:

Please review the assignment the night before or morning of to make sure the assignment has not been cancelled.

If you need to cancel from an assignment:

On occasion, an instance may arise when you have accepted an assignment and then you are unable to complete the assignment due to an emergency.  If such a situation becomes apparent the night before the assignment, then please contact the Absence Management system and choose the option to cancel.  If you must cancel in the morning within an hour of the assignment start time, then please contact the Substitute Calling Service Help Desk at 1-800-424-1918.

NOTE: Failure to cancel out of an assignment in a timely manner may result in exclusion from working at that location in the future.  Repeated failure to cancel may result in the substitute being restricted from working anywhere within the Orleans/Niagara BOCES.  Additionally, a record of frequently declining assignments and/or canceling assignments late may lead to removal of your name from the substitute list.

Substitutes do not have a planning period.  School officials may assign you to other duties during times when you do not have students in the classroom.  School officials have the authority to reassign you to another content area, if they deem it necessary or appropriate.
