  • Certification

Posted by on 8/21/2017 6:38:00 AM

Have you received your teaching certification? Have you filed an extension for certification?

The Orleans/Niagara BOCES Certification Office provides assistance and processes and approves applications of eligible candidates for New York State Certification in the areas of teaching, pupil personnel services, and coaching.

While we are pleased to assist school personnel with certification, please remember that your certification is your responsibility.

Be sure that you know when your certificate expires and what is required to achieve the next level of certification.

If you have not already done so, please inform us if you have received your certification, received an extension, and are currently a per diem substitute. We would like to update our records. Thanks!

Posted by on 8/24/2016 6:15:00 AM

A school district may employ an individual as a substitute teacher in a position held by a teacher who is absent but expected to return. Employment of a substitute teacher does not require a certificate.

There are three categories of substitutes:

    • A person holding one or more valid teaching certificates may substitute in any capacity for any number of days.  Service that exceeds 40 days per school year must occur in an area for which the substitute holds a certificate.
    • A person without certification but who is completing collegiate study toward certification may substitute in any capacity for any number of days.  Service that exceeds 40 days per school year must occur in an area for which the substitute is working toward a certificate.
    • A person without certification and who is not working toward teacher certification is limited to a maximum of 40 days of service per school year, except in extreme and extenuating circumstances as determined by the District Superintendent.

  • JOBULATOR

Posted by on 9/8/2015 10:23:00 AM

The Aesop substitute website is not optimized for mobile phones. If a substitute has a more modern smart phone the web browser on their phone may allow them to search for and accept jobs.

Jobulator is a mobile app that is Aesop approved that substitutes can purchase. This app will notify substitutes of available jobs and allow them to accept assignments right from their mobile device.

Substitutes can find out more information about Jobulator and sign up for a 14-day free trial at www.jobulator.com.

Please note: Other mobile apps such as Sub Sidekick, Substitute Alert, and Sub Assistant are not Aesop approved and are not recommended for use. There are “shady apps” that can put people at risk for identity theft, spam, and more. Shady apps are worth avoiding such as pirated apps which often get pirated into seemingly fake, free versions. Pirated apps can put you at increased risk of receiving spam and exposing personal data on your phone. Avoid the scam. Spend a couple bucks by purchasing the real app while protecting your privacy.
