Building Trades and Electricity Students Get OSHA Training

OCTEC teachers Matt Anastasi and Bill Leggett invited two guest speakers in to talk to their students about fall protection.

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) trainer and inspector, Gordon DeLays and Tom Glomb, who is the Vice President of Lehigh Construction helped the student students in the Building Trades and Electricity/Electronics programs to complete the 10-hour OSHA Outreach course which introduces them to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with their work.

“I was very fortunate to have them come in to teach this section,” says Mr. Anastasi. “According to OSHA, falls on worksites account for 38.7% injuries and/or deaths. Our two guest trainers have decades of experience in the field and their insight and training is unmatched.” The two gentlemen demonstrated various equipment that is used for safety precautions on a job site and shared their knowledge, stories and experiences on worksite safety. “The students actively participated in the training and gained a true understanding in the area of safety, compliance and risk management.
