Extended School Year - Summer School
The Orleans/Niagara BOCES holds a six-week full day special education summer program for students with a wide range of disabilities and needs; this program is known as the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The goal of the Extended School Year program is to help students maintain the skills that they learned during the school year. Engaging them-based lessons, field trips, and special programs keep the 332 students that register from regressing during the summer months.
Along with the classroom instruction that is focused on literacy, the program also includes:
Speech/Language Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
Vision Services
Hearing Services
Orientation and Mobility
Counseling
The 2024 Extended School Year program will begin with a mandatory staff orientation on July 3, 2024. Students will report on July 8, 2024. The last day of the program will be August 16, 2024, for both students and staff.
Our theme for the 2024 ESY Program is:
"Summer Olympics
Let’s get inspired by the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and learn all there is to know about The Games. Lessons and activities could include different Olympic summer sports, background about the different countries that participate in the games, and the importance of good sportsmanship and being a part of the team. Our students will enjoy trips into the community as well as special guests that come to the school. Lastly, we hope to get our students up and moving participating in Olympic Games within the building grounds. Grab your water bottles and your sneakers and enjoy a great summer of learning and cheering for your favorite team!

The re-appointment application is for 10-month Orleans/Niagara BOCES staff ONLY who worked the 2023 ESY program.
The more detail Extended School Year application should be used by the following individuals:
Current BOCES substitutes who are seeking full-time employment in the 2024 ESY Program
Current 10-Month BOCES full and/or part-time employees who did not work the 2023 ESY
program.
All non-BOCES employees, no matter if they worked the 2023 ESY program or not.
