Metztli Mele-Mejia (Lewiston-Porter) is an extraordinary young lady who has really blossomed in her time here at Niagara Academy.  She is currently one of the treasurers of our Niagara Academy Student Council, she is also the President of her class over at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center and she is a member of LYNC (Leadership for the Youth of Niagara Communities) where she is maximizing her leadership potential while learning about our community.

Orleans/Niagara BOCES District Superintendent, Dr. Taweepon Farrar, took the time to attend the Niagara Academy Student Council Meeting on January 13th and spoke to our students about her journey, what she does as a District Superintendent and about developing leadership skills as a young adult.  “The students felt really special by her coming out to talk to them,” says Assistant Principal Michelle Kulbago.  “They took the opportunity to ask her follow up questions too.”

In addition to attending the Student Council Meeting, Metztli enthusiastically gave Dr. Farrar a brief tour of her school.  Dr. Farrar was excited to see Niagara Academy through a student’s eyes.  Metztli told Dr. Farrar about the progress that she has made here and how proud she is of that positive momentum.  Then she took Dr. Farrar through the Counselors’ wing and told her about the good work that Mrs. Antonacci does with her.  She also visited Mrs. Jourdain’s Middle School Math class, followed by Mrs. Kluge’s High School ELA class where they were lucky enough to catch a student presentation.  They ended their tour in Mrs. Rudin’s class where Metztli explained to Dr. Farrar a bit about our level/privilege system that our students use.  A special thank you to Mrs. Rudin who is amazing as a Student Council Advisor!  She helped to facilitate this special tour for Dr. Farrar.
